DataIQ Limited Privacy Policy
DataIQ Limited, referenced below as (“DataIQ”, “We” or “Our”) is committed to respecting your privacy.
This Privacy Policy explains we handle, use, store and disclose personal information, in relation to our products, services and website, in accordance with the Privacy Act 2020 (“Act”) and, the Information Privacy Principles contained in the Act (“IPPs”). You can find out more about the Act, the IPPs and your rights at www.privacy.org.nz.
We may update this policy from time to time on our website and it will apply to all personal information we hold or collect from that point on.
Since we also take a very strict approach to marketing, as a member of the New Zealand Marketing Association (“NZMA”), in this policy we also refer to individuals whose personal information we collect, as “consumers,” which is the term used by the NZMA. This is also relevant to our compliance with other consumer protection legislation and rules.
What Information do we collect?
DataIQ does not collect any Personal Information from consumers directly. We are a data broker and source information from other companies that collect or collate information from multiple sources. DataIQ only accesses personal information where we are satisfied, we can do so in a privacy compliant way. We conduct thorough due diligence to ensure that any data we use is originally sourced from either –
- Licensed or Public Databases – For example Telephone Directories which may also be considered as information in the public domain.
- Opted-in Sources – where the data has been collected with explicit consent for the data to be used for the specific purpose it is being used for including marketing purposes. Any data collected after 1st May 2026 is also subject to the new IPP3A indirect collection rules. To comply with that we have our data collection partners specifically notify consumers when they register at point of collection that their personal information may be shared with DataIQ and our end customer organisations.
Website use – if you visit our website and provide contact details as part of a request for information about our services that information will only be used for that purpose. When you visit or, use our website, we may collect information relating to your machine or device, the date and time you are visiting and the pages you view. This information is anonymised and only used to optimise your use of the website.
General contact – if you contact us, we will collect and hold the information that is relevant to that contact for so long as that is reasonably necessary.
What do we use the information for
We use personal information that we have collected for the following purposes:
- As a data broker to provide that information to businesses so that they can offer services to you. If you wish to know which organisations we have supplied your information to, please email us at Privacy@data-iq.co.nz . A response on this may take 2-3 days.
- To ensure consumers’ requests for suppression are logged and adhered to (see below under “Protecting Consumer Privacy”).
- For our own internal financial and business purposes including so that we can test and improve our services, comply with our legal obligations, resolve disputes, and generally operate our business in a prudent fashion.
To respond to and deal with any consumer queries, access requests or other interactions with consumers in respect of the personal information we hold.
Protecting Consumer Privacy
We recognise that not all consumers appreciate receiving marketing offers so take all the steps we can to ensure we honor people’s preferences. DataIQ is a member if the NZMA and, as a member, is required to suppress consumers that have registered on the Do Not Call (DNC), Do Not Mail (DNM) and Deaths Index (DI) register from receiving unsolicited direct marketing offers.
Consumers have two Opt-Out Options to ensure they do not receive unsolicited marketing –
- Consumers can register on the Do Not Call or the Do Not Mail suppression lists by visiting the NZMA website at – https://marketing.org.nz/do-not-call-do-not-mail .
- Request Opt-Out by emailing us at Privacy@data-iq.co.nz. Any information you provide will only be used for this purpose. DataIQ will also notify the relevant data supplier that you have opted out from the original data source. If requested we will also report back with information about how and when your information was collected and what information was held. This usually takes 2 to 3 days.
How we store and protect your information?
Keeping data secure is a high priority. We take all precautions and use best practice when handling personal information including –
- Physical Security
- Keeping data encrypted
- Network and Internet security
- Protection against viruses & malware
- Only allowing access to authorised staff members.
- Use of 2-factor authentication.
- Use of Firewalls.
- Not retaining any data we do not need to deliver the required services or for any longer than needed.
Consumer Enquiries
If you wish to find out more about what personal information is held about you by DataIQ, ask to have your personal information corrected, be removed from a marketing list or you wish to make a complaint you can contact our Privacy Officer at Privacy@data-iq.co.nz . We will respond as promptly as we can and, if necessary, pass your requests on to the relevant data supplier(s) and businesses.
